Do you consider yourself new to Moodle? Have you started to use the program and are frustrated already? Are you starting to wonder if Moodle and the online environment is for you?

In this active knowWEEK you'll work your way through using some of the Moodle "Mission Critical" Tools. You will be guided to use some of the basic and most important tools, resources and activities required to teach online in a Moodle environment and maximize your understanding of the open source community. This knowWEEK will also highlight some of the activities which will be a part of the Canadian MoodleMoot http://moodlemoot.ca taking place in Edmonton, Alberta, April 1 - 4, 2009

About Mike McLeod:
Mike is a Certified Moodle Teacher, has been using Moodle since 2003. He first got involved with Moodle while completing his Master of Science degree and is currently working on his Master of Distance Education at Athabasca University. He lives in Surrey, British Columbia and works for Trinity Western University as an Academic Technical Support Specialist, who is involved in their Customized Learning Program and in academic technical support for students. His main area of interest these days is the implementation of educational technologies into adult learning environments.

About Richard Wallace:
Richard has been a Moodle user since 2003 and is a Certified Moodle Teacher. Moodle has really taken off in Australia and Richard has built many Moodle sites for organisations in Australia and overseas. His company http://wwdad.com which is based in Adelaide, South Australia, develops, maintains, hosts and customises Moodle sites for public and private organisations. He has a keen interest in engaging users during learning as well as offering engaging self marking assessments for facilitators so that results can immediately be given to students for run of the mill areas of knowledge, (the Deadly Dull Content Areas)

About David LeBlanc:
David is a teacher in Burnaby, British Columbia where he designs and teaches online courses. He is a PhD candidate at Simon Fraser University with a research focus in Distributed Collaborative Learning Design supported through Activity Theory and Socio-Constructivism.

How To ACCESS This knowWEEK:
Please note the following steps

1. Limited Participation
Each knowWEEK is limited to a maximum of 35 participants. Pre-registration is encouraged!

2. Who can Participate?
Of interest to school administrators and teachers.Access is open and free of charge to:

  • All BC teachers and Administrators in the BC public and private school system;
  • By special arrangement for organizations outside of the BC Public School System.

If you don't fit into the above criteria you can still participate and $175.00 CAD for each knowWEEK. Pay through our secure online registration system.

3. Access Steps

  • First time at KnowSCHOOLS? Welcome! Your first step is to create an account in our site: http://knowSCHOOLS.ca
  • Once you have created your profile (login and password), your next step is to pre-register for the knowWEEK discussion(s).

4. KnowWEEK Length:

knowWEEKS open apx. 9:00 am, Sunday and close apx. 12 noon, Friday Pacific time (Vancouver, British Columbia) http://timeanddate.com (World Clock)

5. Late Registration:
If you register after the knowWEEK has begun, and try to enter the discussion, you will be asked for an enrolment key. This means we haven't moved you into the knowWEEK yet. We will very soon, we promise!
