Gimp for Teachers(Sunday, February 08 - Friday, February 13, 2009)

Location:http://knowschools.ca
Facilitator: Marian Heddescheimer, Germany

Gimp is a free image manipulation program that you can download at gimp.org for windows, macintosh or linux. Many people use it as alternative to the very expensive photoshop software because it is almost as powerful as any professional image manipulation software.

In this knowWEEK we will learn how to download and install this software. We will then have a first look at the basics, like retouching an image, creating seamless textures and isolating objects. We will also learn how to improve photos by correcting brightness and contrast.

This week will be very basic. No prerequisites needed, but you should already know how to use your computer and the Internet. I will provide example images for the course assignments but you can also bring your own. After this week you will be able to perform easy tasks like retouching or isolating objects in your own images. It's also a good start for photography classes. If you want to install the software a few days before the class starts, you can find it here: http://gimp.org/downloads/
