140 Characters or Less: The Basics of Microblogging

Microblogging is a form of communication in which users can issues statements and comments on a subject using short posts distributed by instant messages, mobile phones, email or the Web. Twitter, a popular microblogging tool has seen significant growth since it launched in October, 2006, making news headlines during the Canadian and US elections. In this KnowWEEK we will experiment with a number of microblogging platforms and examine how microblogging is being used in education.
About Grant Potter:Grant Potter is the e-Learning Coordinator with the Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Technology at the University of Northern British Columbia http://www.unbc.ca/ctlt ]. Grant has been pursing research and development of educational technologies for the last 10 years through his work in the Canadian Arctic, China, and Northern British Columbia. Grant leverages existing and emerging technologies to extend the instructional potential of UNBC course offerings and facilitates the adoption of educational technology best practices for faculty through regular workshops, seminars, and consultations. In addition to academic pursuits, Grant is an active contributor to a number of open-source educational technology projects.How To ACCESS This knowWEEK:

1. Limited ParticipationEach knowWEEK is limited to a maximum of 35 participants. Pre-registration is encouraged!
2. Who can Participate?
Of interest to school administrators and teachers.Access is open and free of charge to:
- All BC teachers and Administrators in the BC public and private school system;
- By special arrangement for organizations outside of the BC Public School System.
If you don't fit into the above criteria you can still participate and $175.00 CAD for each knowWEEK. Pay through our secure online registration system.

- Once you have created your profile (login and password), your next step is to pre-register for the knowWEEK discussion(s).
4. KnowWEEK Length:

5. Late Registration:
